ABOUT THE CAPITOL STEPS:
“You have watched ‘Saturday Night Live’ and you tune in to Comedy Central every night for ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report.’ But when it comes to satire, you haven't seen the real thing until you have been to ‘The Capitol Steps’.” – The Washington Post
Global economic crises are such a downer, aren’t they? But they sure make good fodder for satire—along with international dust-ups, foot-in-mouth moments and corrupt governors. Political humorists The Capitol Steps were born at a Senate staff Christmas party in 1981. Inspired by incumbent president and one-time Hollywood actor Richard Nixon, a group of Senate staffers determined that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers. Working under the motto “we put the MOCK in democracy,” the group has made a more-than-a-quarter-century career of side-splitting song parodies, skits and satirical humor, spoofing all things political. The Capitol Steps have established themselves as VPAC audience favorites and return to Beaver Creek with brand new material for another evening of hilarity.
